You can request that your TEACH Grant be turned into a direct unsubsidized loan at any point. You must then repay to the federal government the full amount plus all interest that would have accrued on the TEACH Grant funds that were disbursed to your student account. Once your TEACH Grant is turned into a loan, there is no converting it back.
If you believe that your TEACH grant has been converted to a loan in error, the Department of Education recommends that you contact the Department's TEACH Grant servicer, Fedloan. If you cannot resolve your situation after contacting them, you may contact the Federal Student Aid Ombudsman, a neutral, informal, and confidential resource to help resolve federal student aid disputes."
