At times, students may have completed their academic program but still have outstanding educator preparation program requirements and are ineligible for their initial certificate/license as a result. In some states where enrollment in their specific program of study is required for students to maintain an active provisional certificate/license, students may opt to remain enrolled through an extended enrollment option while they pursue their certification/licensure and/or where Relay is actively providing support for certification/licensure (e.g., testing support, edTPA support).
Students extending their enrollment will be enrolled in appropriate courses and/or receive other certification/licensure-related services from faculty members. Students who sign up for extended enrollment will be enrolled for up to one additional academic year (sequential summer, fall, and spring terms from initial graduation date) and will be liable for payment of all applicable fees (see Tuition for Extended Enrollment by Program Location for more information).
In order to be eligible to enroll for the extended enrollment option, students must:
- Have completed their academic program;
- Be pursuing an initial teaching certificate/license in their state; and
- Be continuously enrolled in a program at Relay (minimum one term of enrolled coursework prior to requesting extended enrollment)
Additionally, students who extend their enrollment are held to the same tuition standards as other students. Namely, students must have their total balance paid below $500 on a term-by-term basis to remain enrolled. Failure to do so will result in an administrative withdrawal or graduation from Relay (if applicable) and disqualification from future terms of extended enrollment.
Extended enrollment is not a stand-alone program and as such students may not return to Relay from a status of “leave of absence,” “withdrawal,” “dismissal,” “graduated,” “graduation on hold,” “did not graduate,” or any other nonenrolled status for the sole purpose of participating in extended enrollment. This option is solely for students who at the end of their coursework require additional time to complete state-certification/licensure requirements.
Please note that students opting into extended enrollment will be delaying their program completion date.
You are not eligible for extended enrollment if:
- You have not been continuously enrolled at Relay (minimum one term enrolled coursework prior to requesting extended enrollment);
- You are beginning another Relay program (e.g., AC-SPED) in the year for which you are requesting extended enrollment;
- You have not completed your academic program requirements;
- You have a prior term(s) balance of greater than $500; and/or
- You have already graduated from the program in which you are requesting to extend your enrollment
Tuition for Extended Enrollment by Program Location
For extended enrollment, please review these additional policies for additional information:
- Extended Enrollment
- Changing Your Extended Enrollment Status
- State-Specific Extended Enrollment Policies
Tuition for extended enrollment is as follows:
- In the fall and spring terms, students will be charged a $150 per term fee with an extended enrollment status.
Per Relay's refund calendar, students who cancel their extended enrollment before the census date of a term will be eligible for a full refund of the applicable fees paid.
Per Relay's tuition refund policy, students can cancel their extended enrollment after the term census date but will still be responsible for their fees.
Upon students’ withdrawal, their program completion date will be the end of the current term, or in case of withdrawal between terms, the end of the last term in which they were enrolled. Please see Table 1 for details.
|Colu A: Program Completion and Degree Conferral Date||Column B: Final Date to Withdraw for Full Refund (i.e., Term Census Date)||Column C: Final Date to Withdraw to Receive the Conferral Date in Column A|
|June 5, 2023*||June 20, 2023|
|August 21, 2023||August 14, 2023||September 11, 2023|
|January 8, 2024||October 2, 2023||January 29, 2024|
|May 28, 2024**||February 15, 2024|
*If students sign up for academic year 2023-24 extended enrollment but their circumstances change such that they no longer need extended enrollment, the student must withdraw prior to June 20, 2023, to not have their degree conferral delayed.
**All students who are enrolled at the end of the spring 2024 term will be withdrawn from extended enrollment; however, they may withdraw prior to February 15, 2024, to avoid being charged for the spring 2024 term.
Extended Enrollment Financial Aid Policy
Students extending their enrollment will be enrolled in a non-credit-bearing course. As such, students will not be eligible for federal financial aid, including veterans benefits or loan deferment. Students with prior student loans may be required to start making payments, as per the terms of their prior loans. If required, your loan service provider will reach out to you directly with the next steps.
Changing Your Extended Enrollment Status
Students on extended enrollment may not request a leave of absence from Relay except under compelling personal circumstances. Students on extended enrollment who request a leave of absence for other reasons will be withdrawn from extended enrollment with implications listed below. Please note, taking a leave of absence for compelling personal circumstances may impact your eligibility to hold your current certification/licensure.
Students can sign up for extended enrollment for up to one full academic year, which consists of sequential summer, fall, and spring terms. Should a student wish to cancel their extended enrollment prior to the end of the final spring term, they must complete a withdrawal form, indicating a withdrawal from extended enrollment specifically. Upon a student’s withdrawal, their program completion date will be the end of the current term, or in case of withdrawal between terms, the end of the last term in which they were enrolled. All students who do not withdraw during the academic year will graduate at the end of their final spring semester. Please reach out to email@example.com for any questions about withdrawing from or otherwise ending your extended enrollment.
