What is Nelnet?
Nelnet is our new student finance portal. We received lots of feedback from you that our old portal, Minerva, was too complicated and statements were difficult to understand. We also received lots of requests asking to centralize payment plans, payments, and statements all into one system.
Nelnet allows you to access all your Relay financial information through one dedicated portal with a user-friendly interface. You can now view your billing statements by term, see all transactions including upcoming federal financial aid and partner or school contributions, and sign up for a payment plan. You can also add other authorized people to make a payment toward your account.
Why am I getting multiple emails from Nelnet?
On June 10, Student Financial Services (SFS) sent out a Nelnet billing notification to all continuing students for the Summer 2019 term stating that your tuition amount was due by August 15. The following day you received a similar email from Nelnet with the corrected July 15 due date; accounts were not charged twice. We recognize this may have caused confusion and we apologize for our lack of clarity.
How can I view my Relay billing statements moving forward?
By the fall term your log-in process will be easier. In the meantime, please log into your Okta portal
- Click on Minerva
- Click on Finance
- Click “Pay Using Nelnet.”

Why did my billing statement increase?
On June 10, the Bursar Office added Summer 2019 term charges to accounts for students that we anticipate t continuing into their next academic year. Relay sends out summer billing notifications by the end of the spring term so that you can arrange payments or secure federal financial aid. You’ll see the charges added under the “SUMMER 2019” section of your student account and this would increase your overall total that you see due.
Why did my billing statement increase by almost $6000?
If you had a portion of your 2018-2019 tuition delayed (up to $6000) and you are expecting either an AmeriCorps Education award or TFA Education award, that portion of tuition is now made payable on your statement. On June 10, the Bursar Office added the charges to your student account. This will be found on your Nelnet statement as “FULL YEAR 2018-19” charges. This is not due until you receive your award toward the end of July / beginning of August.
Will the new tuition charges hold me from Summer term registration?
Neither the Summer 2019 tuition nor the deferred tuition made payable will hold you from being registered for the Summer term courses. As long as your balance is at or below $500 by July 1, and there are no additional holds on your account, you will be registered for the upcoming term.
Why did I receive an “initiated withdrawal” email from Relay?
If your academic year 2018-2019 account balance was over $500, before the deferred tuition was added, you received an email that your withdrawal process was initiated. To avoid being administratively withdrawn please take action and resolve your balance to $500 or less. Please reach out directly to email@example.com if you need additional assistance or a financial plan.
