We recognize that candidates may be wondering how COVID-19 and resulting school closures will impact the completion of their edTPA submission. Students should follow the guidance provided by their campuses in regards to completing the edTPA. If you have not yet heard an update from your campus OR your state is not planning to provide extensions or waivers for the edTPA in spring 2020, please see below for suggestions on how you may proceed with completing your edTPA. Know that we are continuing to keep a close eye on all incoming communication regarding edTPA and other certification requirements from state regulatory agencies and will continue to update students as needed.
If you have registered for, but not yet submitted the edTPA...
As a result of COVID-19, Pearson has extended all registrations to expire on December 5, 2021. This extension will apply to all open registrations for initial resubmissions and retakes. Candidates no longer need to contact Pearson.
Unless you have been advised by your campus to pause or discontinue working on your edTPA due to state regulatory guidelines from COVID-19, you should continue working towards completing the edTPA. See below for recommendations based on your current progress.
If you have not yet started Task 1…
- If your school is closed but plans to reopen before the end of the academic year, keep in mind that you may be able to teach your learning segment to a small group. You should refer to your handbook (Task 1: What Do I Need To Do?) for the minimum number of students that must be included in your small group and on video. We recommend that you prioritize teaching your learning segment within 1-2 weeks upon returning.
- If your school is closed but plans to move to online instruction with your Pk-12 students, you may be eligible to request alternative evidence for your portfolio. You must connect with your edTPA faculty advisor to determine whether this is an appropriate option for you, and you must also receive approval from Relay’s edTPA Coordinator, before you may submit the request form.
- If your school is closed, does not plan to reopen by the end of the academic year, is not moving to online instruction, AND you are still required to submit the edTPA for certification according to state regulations, please reach out to your faculty advisor for suggested next steps.
