Some candidates in Indiana are required to take and pass a state content exam prior to officially enrolling with Relay. This guide serves to help support candidates during pre-enrollment in registering and preparing for their exams.
Test Requirements: The Indiana Department of Education requires that all candidates to a Transition to Teaching program (such as Relay) demonstrate content mastery in their certification area prior to enrollment. This could be through a combination of undergraduate degree type, undergraduate cumulative GPA, graduate degree(s), years of professional experience, and/or passing of a state content exam.
- See Relay Indiana’s Certification Eligibility to learn whether you are required to pass a state content exam for admissions.
Test Registration
Step 1: Identify your exam. If you need to demonstrate content mastery by passing a state content exam, find the exam associated with your subject area in the table below.

Step 2: Register for your exam. Register for all required exams on the Pearson website for Indiana CORE Assessments here. (This also includes requesting alternative testing arrangements if applicable.) Candidates are responsible for paying for test fees upon registration.
Step 3: Receive and submit scores. Please see this link for when you will see your score report on the ETS website. The exact date depends on the exam you took.
Step 4: Retake tests (if necessary). If you need to retake a test, you must complete the registration process again. You must wait 28 days before retaking a test.
