Relay offers a number of institutional scholarships to eligible students. These scholarships are funds that, unlike loans, do not need to be repaid. They are subject to terms, conditions, and availability of funding each academic year. SFS will reach out to applicants after admissions applications have been reviewed to inform them of their institutional aid through a financial aid offer.
Relay Teaching Scholarship
The Relay Teaching Scholarship is awarded to eligible students who teach in public charter and district schools.
Relay Fellowship
The Relay Fellowship is awarded to eligible students who are not currently participating in AmeriCorps, do not have AmeriCorps Education Award funds from previous participation in an AmeriCorps program, and are not supported by outside scholarships. Granted at the beginning of each academic term, the Relay Fellowship is contingent upon continued employment at an eligible school and enrollment in an eligible program.
Relay Fellowship award amounts are determined based on available funding for the fellowship
Relay Residency Scholarship
The Relay Teaching Residency program is an AmeriCorps program. However, for participants in the Relay Teaching Residency who are not receiving Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards (Education Awards) due to limited AmeriCorps positions or documented ineligibility, the Relay Residency Scholarship may be available.
Similar to the Education Award, the Relay Residency Scholarship is only awarded to students upon successful completion of the full academic year. Relay delays the due date of tuition associated with a pending education award so that students are able to use their pending Relay Residency Scholarship funds to cover their tuition charges. If students do not receive their Relay Residency Scholarship for any reason, they will be responsible for paying this balance out of pocket.
If students take a leave of absence, withdraw, are administratively withdrawn, or are dismissed from the program before completion of the full academic year, students may not receive any portion of the Relay Residency Scholarship. If they have not completed all terms of the year, their tuition balance from unearned awards becomes payable immediately. Students will be responsible for covering any portion of their tuition and fees that would have otherwise been covered by the Relay Residency Scholarship award, in addition to any other unpaid tuition charges.
Students who fail to complete all teaching residency paperwork (e.g., AmeriCorps requirements), fail to complete the AmeriCorps enrollment process, or request to opt-out of the AmeriCorps program may not be eligible for a Relay Residency Scholarship and will be personally responsible (not their employer) for this portion of tuition. For more information on tuition from pending unearned awards, please see Pending Awards. For more information on extenuating circumstances, please see Extenuating Circumstances for AmeriCorps Recipients. For more information on AmeriCorps opt-out policies, please see AmeriCorps Opt-out.
Other Institutional Scholarships
Relay may be able to offer additional scholarships based on available funding. Students eligible for these scholarships will be notified by Student Financial Services during the enrollment process.
