Relay offers the opportunity for students to transfer to another Relay program, including programs offered in a different location than the program in which students are currently enrolled. In order for students to be eligible to transfer programs, they must have been in good academic standing at the end of their last term of enrollment at Relay. All program transfer requests must receive approval from the relevant institutional offices.
Students who transfer to a new program may also need to meet additional state- and/or program-specific admissions requirements before their transfer is granted.
Program transfers may also impact a student’s pathway to certification/licensure. Students interested in a program transfer who are enrolled in, and have not yet completed, an educator preparation program for initial-level certification/licensure should sign up for office hours to speak to the certification officer in the location of their new program to help determine eligibility before submitting a transfer application. Oftentimes, students will need to complete additional requirements, such as exams or workshops, in order to enroll in or complete a different educator preparation program.
Relay offers guidance to students considering a program transfer in their current location or who intend to relocate to another state while enrolled. Students are encouraged to reach out to support@relay.edu for additional guidance. Also, see Change in Teaching Location for information on how relocation may impact your pathway to certification/licensure.
Students interested in an out-of-state program transfer who have already completed an initial-level educator preparation program should research requirements for an out-of-state program or certificate/license reciprocity in the state in which they wish to teach prior to requesting the transfer.
Students who wish to submit a program transfer request may submit a completed transfer-request application two months prior to the start of the requested transfer term and no later than the requested transfer term census date. Transfer applications will be evaluated based on applicants’ statements submitted in the application, their current school of employment and teaching placement, any state-specific requirements related to the requested transfer program, previous academic-standing statuses at Relay, and their outstanding financial balances (if relevant). Students with an outstanding financial balance must resolve their entire balance due to Relay to be considered for a transfer (active exceptions review for students enrolled in a certification only program in CT, IL, TN, and TX locations for balances over $3000). Please note, some classes do not run for the full length of the term; as such, applications may be rejected if the required courses for the program are not being offered or have already concluded for the term. Applications are reviewed by relevant institutional offices. While program transfers are available, they are not guaranteed.
