Technology Requirements

To participate in any of Relay’s programs, students are required to have access to a computer with a personal login. Relay does not have a preference or a recommendation for the type of computer used.

Students using a Personal Computer are required to have Windows 11 or above, and we strongly recommend Office 2016 and above. Students using a Mac are required to have Mac OS 14 or above, and we strongly recommend Microsoft Office version 2024 or above.

All students are required to have/use the latest version of Firefox, Chrome, or Safari. We also strongly recommend having anti-virus protection on your device.

Google Chromebooks and Apple iPad work generally well but are not fully compatible with the Relay Technology Platform as of this writing.

Technology Student Support

For technology support, students can reach out to us by submitting a request here or emailing [email protected]. When students contact [email protected], we kindly request that they provide as much detailed information as possible about their technology problem. This enables the Relay support team to promptly address concerns and offer effective assistance.

Students can expedite problem-solving by including a few important pieces of information when reaching out for technology support:

  1. Your full name
  2. The name of the app, tool, or platform that you are trying to access or use.
  3. A screenshot of the computer screen showing the error message or problem. (For more information about how to create a screenshot, click here.)
  4. The web browser name and version.

A common troubleshooting step is to clear your web browser's cache and cookies. This solves many common problems. You can learn more about that step here.

Please note: Relay Support operating hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST excluding national holidays. For Canvas-related issues, please use Canvas’s 24-hour support, available within Canvas, which can be accessed by clicking the Help icon. Twenty-four-hour support is available within Canvas, enabling answers to common questions, contact information for the Canvas Support Hotline (Students), and live chats with Canvas Support.

Available Technology Trainings for Students

Technology training is available as part of GEN-101 and EDU-500 courses available in Canvas and is required to be completed before beginning official academic coursework.

For timely responses, students should contact a faculty member via email, [email protected], or through Canvas messaging.

Information Exchange Privacy and Safety

Relay ensures industry-standard security measures are in place to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. Technical safeguards to protect your personal information include securing the data, collection, usage, and hosting of data.

This policy does not replace or supersede other existing policies and procedures relating to the use and maintenance of personal information such as FERPA.

Stay vigilant against phishing! Be cautious of unexpected emails requesting personal information, verify sender addresses, and avoid clicking on links with urgent requests to keep your data secure.

Student Use of Recording and AI Note-Taking Tools

Unauthorized student recording or automated transcription of classroom or other academic activities (including advising sessions and office hours) is prohibited. This prohibition includes inviting, deploying, or utilizing unapproved third-party AI note-takers (such as Otter.ai, Read.ai, or Fireflies.ai).  Relay cannot verify the security of these third-party tools, what data these tools collect, or how that data is stored and used.  Unauthorized recording may violate personal privacy rights and may be a violation of applicable state wiretapping laws.  Students requesting the use of assistive technology as an accommodation should complete the process outlined on the Disability Volunteer Disclosure Form,

Faculty may provide students with recordings, transcripts, or notes from classroom sessions, so long as they follow Relay's policies regarding approved technology tools and data security. Any such materials provided to students are strictly for the student's personal educational use.  Following Relay's copyright policy, students may not copy, publish, or redistribute any portion of Relay-provided recordings, transcripts, or notes to any other individual or public platform without express permission. Distribution without permission may also violate federal educational privacy law (FERPA) and federal copyright laws
