When should I register for the edTPA?

We recommend registering as soon as possible. You have up to 18 months upon registering to submit your edTPA portfolio for scoring. Be sure to select your Relay campus (e.g., Relay - Delaware) when indicating the educator preparation program in which you are currently enrolled.

How much does the EdTPA cost?

  • $300 for full assessment submission or 3-task retake
  • $200 for 2-task retake
  • $100 for single-task retake

Where can I get an edTPA Handbook?

You can access any of the distinct edTPA Handbooks and templates in the TC: Planning for edTPA or TC: Curating the edTPA modules. You can also access your certification area's handbook once you register on the Pearson website.

Do I register for the National or Washington version of the edTPA?

Relay students should select the National version of the edTPA and then select their Relay campus as a score report recipient.

Do I register through the Pearson ePortfolio System, or the edTPA Platform Provider system?

All Relay students should register and submit through the Pearson ePortfolio system.

My certification area is elementary education. Which elementary education handbook area should I take?

It depends. There are four different elementary education handbook areas, but most states only accept 1-2 of those handbook areas for elementary education certification candidates (usually the four-task handbooks). You should reference the requirements for your state prior to registering for your edTPA to ensure you’ve registered for the correct handbook, and connect with your Relay advisor if you're still unsure of which handbook you should complete after reviewing the linked page above.

Which edTPA handbook should I take if my teaching placement is different than my certification area?

You should take the handbook area that aligns with your certification area. Connect with your academic advisor or the edTPA faculty lead at your campus for guidance on submitting a handbook area that may be in a content or grade level that’s different from your teaching placement. We have had many students successfully complete the edTPA even if their handbook area differed from their teaching placement.

If I taught and was certified in another state before coming to Relay, is the edTPA a requirement?

It depends. Reciprocity requirements are different for every state. In most states, you must have at least a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA, and three years of effective or highly effective teaching experience under a valid initial- or professional-level license to be eligible for reciprocity and exempt from the edTPA. You should connect with a certification officer or your campus operations lead at your Relay campus to confirm whether you need to submit the edTPA ([email protected]).

I completed an edTPA portfolio in another state. Do I need to submit another edTPA portfolio?

It depends. Email your campus certification officer or operations lead, so they can check that the edTPA portfolio you previously submitted meets the handbook alignment and passing requirements in your state. They will also provide you with directions for sending an official score report to your state if it will be accepted.
