Relay currently offers the following programs in Texas:

Master of Arts in Teaching with or without Certification

  • A 2-year, 32 credit, Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program.

  • To be eligible to seek certification in Texas through Relay, prospective students must qualify for admission to the Texas Educator Preparation Program (Post-Baccalaureate or Alternative Certification). See Texas Educator Preparation Program Admissions Requirements below. Candidates will teach for at least one full school year under an Intern or Probationary Certificate. Eligible program completers will earn a Texas Standard Certificate.

    • Relay Teaching Residency Pathway - Texas Post-Baccalaureate Certification Program
      •  In the second year, students teach as a teacher of record (lead teacher) under an Intern or Probationary Certificate.

      • The residency pathway supports aspiring teachers, offering a supportive gradual on-ramp into the profession.  In the first year, students serve as teaching residents, completing a year-long apprenticeship alongside a lead teacher.

      • Non-Resident Pathway - Texas Post-Baccalaureate Certification Program

        • This pathway is designed for students who will be the teacher of record (lead teacher) in the both years of enrollment, serving under an Intern or Probationary Certificate in either the first year (Alternative Program) or second year (Post-Baccalaureate Program)

        • Post-Baccalaurate Certification Program requirements are designed to be met on the same timeline as degree completion, 6 terms.

    • Candidates in either pathway can add the English as a Second Language (ESL) Supplemental Certificate to their base certificate by taking specific coursework and passing the ESL Supplemental TExES exam prior to recommendation for an Intern or Probationary Certificate. Note that candidates in the Non-Resident pathway will be required to take one additional one-credit hour course in the first year to meet the requirements for this supplemental endorsement.

    • Students who are NOT seeking certification in Texas may enroll in the M.A.T. as a degree-only student through the Residency or Non-Residency pathways.
