Congratulations on your recent admission to Relay Graduate School of Education!  Below you will find support resources that may answer frequently asked questions you may have as you await the start of your program.  If you have additional questions or need assistance, you may email [email protected].

 

TEAMS THAT SUPPORT ENROLLED STUDENTS

 

Registrar

Oversees, maintains, and processes all aspects of student registration, changes to enrollment (e.g., withdrawals and leaves of absence), re-enrollment/transfers, student benefits and reporting (e.g., veterans affairs benefits), Relay transcripts and enrollment letters, student academic progress (SAP), and program completion operations (e.g., diplomas and degree audits), and the review, revision, and operations of enrollment and academic policies. 

 

Office of Student Affairs

Works closely with faculty and students to create a safe, inclusive, and meaningful experience for all Relay students and alumni. Through a variety of services, programs, and activities, the Office of Student Affairs at Relay supports and encourages the socio-cultural, intellectual, and personal development of our students and alumni. Student Affairs leadership also serves as Relay’s Title IX coordinator and ADA coordinator. 

 

Student Financial Services (SFS)

Provides students with information, financing, and services needed to pay for their Relay education. SFS oversees graduate students’ accounts, including the billing and collection of tuition and fees, and provides counseling regarding payment options. SFS is also responsible for issuing refunds from students’ accounts as needed and for disbursing and administering scholarship funds.  Finally, SFS administers federal Title IV funds, including direct unsubsidized loans and TEACH Grants, for eligible students who require federal financial aid to pay for their tuition and fees at Relay. 

 

Student Advising

Just as prospective students worked with Prospective Student Advising, enrolled students will also work with advisors throughout their programs.  Newly admitted students can expect communications from their advisor starting in the spring and into the summer, including logistics for their summer term as well as how to prepare for their program and first term at Relay. 

Registration/Enrollment/Programs/Scheduling

How do I change my program/major/endorsement area after admission?

What is my summer schedule?  When do I start class?

  • Students will be automatically registered for a schedule of classes in their first term at Relay based on when they accept their offer of admission and program requirements.
  • The first day of the Summer 2024 term is June 17, 2024. Summer classes will begin on or after this date.
  • Students will be able to access their official schedule in My Relay Portal after being fully admitted and closer to the date of classes.

I anticipate that I will have a conflict with the course schedule I am registered for. How do I change my schedule/register for other class times?

  • Once you are registered for courses you can see your schedule in your My Relay Portal located in your Relay MyApps account.  If you have a conflict with a course schedule please reach out to your advisor with the next steps.  If you have a conflict with an individual class day/ time please reach out to your professor.

What is my fall schedule?

  • Please refer to the student handbook for the most current information on registration timelines in order to see your fall schedule.

I can no longer attend Relay in 2024-2025.  How do I pause my enrollment?

How many hours are classes (in the summer and in the school year)?  How many times a week?

  • Schedules will be specific to individual students, but here are some general guidelines for students’ first year at Relay:
  • Most class sessions are 2.5 hours in length.
  • In the summer term, students can expect between 12 and 16 class sessions, either concentrated across 1-2 weeks on weekdays (with multiple sessions in a day) and/or spread out on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the summer.
  • In the fall and spring terms, students can expect to take most classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings across 10-14 weeks each term and either one weekly Clinical Practice class during the school day or a monthly Clinical Practice class outside of school hours, depending on the program. Some classes may occur on Saturdays.
  • In all terms, students may also be registered for asynchronous courses, which do not have live meeting times.

Tuition

When is tuition due and how do I pay it?

Summer Session

What is the Zoom link for when I start class?

  • Students will learn specific class details, such as instructor, zoom link, expectations and how to prepare, and other logistics approximately one week prior to the beginning of the class.

Will my classes be online or in person?

  • Most Relay classes are taking place online in the 2024-2025 school year. Some students in CO, CT, IL, NJ, and TN may have one required in-person class day in the Summer term. The date, time, and location of those in-person classes will be communicated by instructors approximately one week prior to the class.

What if I cannot make it in person?

  • Most Relay classes are taking place online in the 2024-2025 school year If students are assigned to an in-person class in CO, CT, IL, NJ, or TN, and cannot attend the in-person class, there will be an opportunity to switch their class to an online version closer to the class date.

I will miss one day/class meeting.  What should I do?

  • Please notify your professor as soon as you know you won’t be able to attend a class.

How do I know who my advisor will be?

  • All incoming admitted students will have advisors assigned after admission. Advisors will reach out to students directly through their Relay student email, so it is very important that the email account is activated and they are monitoring it regularly.

How do I know who my professors will be?

  • Your professors’ names and contact information will be listed in your My Relay Portal once your schedule is finalized.  

Who do I contact if any issues arise in class or off campus?

  • Please contact your advisor immediately through [email protected] or their phone number if you have any issues.

Will I have reading, tasks, or other work before class starts?

  • Students will learn specific class details, such as instructor, zoom link, expectations and how to prepare, and other logistics approximately one week prior to the beginning of the class.

Certification

When should I take my exams?

  • Students who wish to get started on the required exams for their program can reference their location’s EPP handbook for deadlines (called transition points).

How do I submit exam scores?

  • Once enrolled, all students submit exams and other certification requirements through an online platform called Anthology Portfolio.  You’ll learn more about this at your Certification Orientation.

What are my next steps for certification?

  • Review your EPP handbook for the details and reach out to your advisor with any questions.  Pay close attention to transition point due dates and the requirements for meeting them.

I need help with certification tasks (sending in things to the state, signing up for an exam, etc).

  • Once assigned, please contact your advisor with any questions and support.

Other

How do I log into and use Relay student platforms, such as Canvas, Anthology Student, and Anthology Portfolio (Certification)?

  • Answers to log-in questions can be found in the Technology section of the Support Center.
  • If the student has been assigned an advisor, they should also meet with their advisor for further guidance.

I am in need of child care when we have class.  What should I do?

  • We understand that some of our enrolled students are also parents, and we applaud your commitment to your job, your education, and your family.  We kindly ask that during this journey you consider the following Relay policies about children in class:
  • In-person classes: Enrolled Relay students are the only people allowed to attend in-person Relay classes on a regular basis. Children of students are not allowed to attend in-person Relay classes on a regular basis. In case of a childcare emergency, if possible, students should plan to attend an alternate class date (where available) or make arrangements to get the covered material from the faculty member.
  • Online synchronous classes: Please make every effort to be fully present during synchronous online sessions.  

Is my English proficient enough to participate in Relay’s program?  How can I get support?

  • If the student has been assigned an advisor, they should also meet with their advisor for further guidance and speak to their professors for support.
