Delaware Alternative Route to Certification Program (ARTC)

Single Endorsement: Elementary Teacher K-6; Middle Level English Language Arts Teacher;  Middle Level Mathematics Teacher; Middle Level Science Teacher; Middle Level Social Studies Teacher; Secondary English Language Arts Teacher; Secondary Mathematics Teacher; Secondary Science Teacher-Biology; Secondary Science Teacher-Chemistry; Secondary Science Teacher-Earth Science; Secondary Science Teacher-Integrated Science; Secondary Science Teacher-Physics; Secondary Science Teacher-Physical Science; OR Secondary Social Studies Teacher 

 

Dual Endorsement Option: Any of the above AND Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities 

 

Relay’s Delaware Alternative Route to Certification (ARTC) Program is intended for students who have completed an undergraduate degree and want to seek teacher certification in Delaware while teaching in a Delaware school. 

 

The Delaware ARTC program is offered as a non-degree program (18 credit hours/3 terms) or through enrollment in a corresponding Master of Arts in Teaching program: 

  • Elementary, middle level, and secondary endorsements are offered through enrollment in a corresponding MAT program (32 credits/6 terms). 

  • Students seeking the Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities certificate must enroll in the MAT in Special Education (39 credits/6 terms). 

 

Students complete aligned coursework and one (1) year of qualifying clinical experience as a teacher of record in a Delaware school while holding an Emergency Certificate and/or Certificate of Eligibility. Students’ teaching assignments must match their certificate title. Qualifying clinical experience typically occurs during the first year of enrollment in the program. Clinical experiences are supervised by Relay faculty and a school-based clinical mentor. Academic plans detailing specific course requirements may be accessed on the Academic Plans site. Students are provided with a detailed course schedule at orientation.

 

Successful program completers who meet all necessary requirements for certification may apply for the Delaware Standard Certificate. Relay’s Delaware Alternative Route to Certification Program (ARTC) - Relay Teaching Residency (RTR) is intended for Relay Teaching Residents who have completed an undergraduate degree and want to seek teacher certification in Delaware. The Delaware ARTC - RTR program is a 32-credit-hour/6-term program offered through enrollment in a corresponding Master of Arts in Teaching program: 

  • Elementary, middle level, and secondary endorsements are offered through enrollment in a corresponding MAT program (32 credits/6 terms). 

  • Students seeking the Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities certificate must enroll in the MAT in Special Education (39 credits/6 terms). 

 

Students enter the EPP after completing the first year of the MAT program. During the second year, students complete aligned coursework and at least one (1) year of clinical experience as a teacher of record in a Delaware school while holding an Emergency Certificate and/or Certificate of Eligibility. Students’ teaching assignments must match their endorsement area(s). Clinical experiences are supervised by Relay faculty and a school-based clinical mentor. Delaware Additional Certification Program

Additional Endorsement: Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities

 

The Delaware Additional Certification Program is intended for educators who hold at least a bachelor’s degree and a current Delaware Initial, Continuing, or Advanced License and a Standard Certification in a content area and grade level that aligns with their current teaching role and wish to add the Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities certificate. 

 

The Delaware Additional Certificate Program is offered through the Advanced Certificate in Special Education (21 credits/3 terms). Academic plans detailing specific course requirements may be accessed on the Academic Plans site. Students are provided with a detailed course schedule at orientation.

 

Successful program completers who meet all necessary requirements for certification may apply for the Delaware Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities Standard Certificate.
