New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility (CE) Certification Program 

Single Endorsements: Elementary School Teacher in Grades K-6; English; Mathematics; Biological Science; Chemistry; Physical Science; Physics; Social Studies

Dual Endorsement Option: Any single endorsement AND Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD)

 

Grades 5-8 Co-Certificate Options: Language Arts/Literacy Specialization in Grades 5-8;  Mathematics in Grades 5-8; Science in Grades 5-8; Social Studies in Grades 5-8 

 

The New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility (CE) Certification Program is intended for students who have completed an undergraduate degree and want to seek teacher certification in New Jersey while teaching in a New Jersey school. 

 

The New Jersey CE Certification Program is a 27-credit-hour/6-term program offered through enrollment in a corresponding Master of Arts in Teaching program: 

  • Elementary and content-specific endorsements with optional Grades 5-8 co-certificates are offered through enrollment in a corresponding MAT program (32 credits/6 terms). 

  • Students seeking the Teacher of Students with Disabilities certificate must enroll in the MAT in Special Education (39 credits/6 terms). 

 

Students complete aligned coursework and two (2) years of provisional teaching in a New Jersey school in a role that requires instructional certification. Students’ teaching assignments must match their certificate title. Clinical experiences are supervised by Relay faculty and a school-based clinical mentor. Academic plans detailing specific course requirements may be accessed on the Academic Plans site. Students are provided with a detailed course schedule at orientation.

 

Successful program completers who meet all necessary requirements for certification may apply to convert their Provisional Certificate to a Standard Certificate. New Jersey Additional Certification Program

Additional Endorsement: Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD)

 

The New Jersey Additional Certification Program is intended for educators who hold at least a bachelor’s degree and a valid Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) or Standard Certificate with a content area endorsement and who wish to add the Teacher of Students with Disabilities endorsement. 

 

The New Jersey Additional Certificate program is offered through the Advanced Certificate in Special Education (21 credit/3 terms). Academic plans detailing specific course requirements may be accessed on the Academic Plans site. Students are provided with a detailed course schedule at orientation.

 

Successful program completers who meet all necessary requirements for certification will be eligible for an additional certificate in Teacher of Students with Disabilities.
