New York Residency Teacher Preparation Program

The New York Residency Teacher Preparation Program is intended for students who have completed an undergraduate degree and want to seek teacher certification in New York while teaching in a New York school.
The New York Residency Teacher Preparation Program is offered through enrollment in a corresponding Master of Arts in Teaching program:

Single endorsement in early childhood, childhood, middle childhood, or adolescent general education is offered through enrollment in a corresponding MAT program (30 credits/4 terms).

Students seeking the Students with Disabilities (All Grades) certificate must enroll in the MAT in Special Education (31 credits/4 terms).
Students complete aligned coursework and qualifying clinical experience through teaching for at least one (1) academic year as a teacher resident in a New York school while holding an issued Residency certificate. Students’ must hold a program-aligned instructional position, and teaching assignments must match their certificate title. Clinical experiences are supervised by Relay faculty and a school-based clinical mentor. Academic plans detailing specific course requirements may be accessed on the Academic Plans site. Students are provided with a detailed course schedule at orientation.
Successful program completers who meet all necessary requirements for certification may apply for the New York Initial Certificate. New York Transitional B Alternative Teacher Preparation Program

Single endorsements in early childhood, childhood, middle childhood, or adolescent general education are offered through enrollment in a corresponding MAT program (32 credits/6 terms).

Students seeking the Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6) certificate or the Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12) Generalist certificate must enroll in the MAT in Special Education (39 credits/6 terms).

Students seeking the Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2) must enroll in the MAT in Early Childhood Special Education.

Students’ teaching assignments must match their certificate title. Qualifying clinical experience typically occurs during the second year of enrollment. New York Additional Certification Program

The New York Additional Certification Program is intended for educators who hold at least a bachelor’s degree and have completed a registered New York state teacher preparation program and hold an Initial and/or Professional Certificate and who wish to add Teacher of Students with Disabilities endorsement.
The New York Additional Certificate program is offered through the Advanced Certificate in Special Education (21 credit/4 terms).
Successful program completers who meet all necessary requirements for certification will be eligible for an additional certificate in Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6) or Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12) Generalist.
