New Student Orientation is a one-hour virtual session where we delve into the various resources, tools, and support systems available at Relay. New Student Orientation offers an excellent opportunity to connect with knowledgeable staff members and fellow students who are equally passionate about the field of education. You’ll gain insights into the supportive community we foster, explore valuable educational resources, and establish connections that can enhance your journey at Relay. 

If you're looking for more details about our orientation events, we invite you to explore our comprehensive resources section. There, you will find valuable materials, including past recordings of sessions and responses to frequently asked questions that can help enhance your experience and understanding.

You may be required to attend other orientation sessions, such as State Based Orientation, Teach for America, AmeriCorps, Residency programs, etc. These sessions will be communicated to you via email by the appropriate teams, so please be sure to check your inbox.

Q: Do I need to attend both New Student Orientation and the State Specific Orientation?
A: Yes! Since each orientation covers different aspects of your Relay experience, attending both will help set you up for success. You will have the flexibility to choose from multiple session options for each.

 

Q: How long are the orientations?
A: Each orientation is one hour.

 

Q: Who leads each orientation?

A: New Student Orientation is led by the Student Affairs and Support Services. State-Based Orientation is facilitated by state-based teams who specialize in certification and licensure requirements for your location.

Q: Who should attend? 
A: All new, incoming students are encouraged to attend to get the most out of their first term at Relay. 

Q: Can I take the New Student Orientation and the State-based Orientation on different days?
A: Yes, both types of orientation sessions are scheduled throughout the summer, select the ones that work best for you.

Q: What are the technology requirements to attend this event: 
A: Ensure you have access to a device with a stable internet connection, camera, and microphone. If you have trouble with the event link, contact [email protected] or text 646-502-6048. 

Q: Can I meet other new students during the event? 
A: Yes, there will be opportunities for you to interact with other new students during the event.

Q: What is the difference between the New Student Orientation and the State-Based Orientation?
A: New Student Orientation provides a broad introduction to Relay Graduate School of Education, including key resources, academic expectations, technology platforms, and support services available to all students. It is designed to ensure you feel confident navigating and connected to the Relay community. 

State-Based Orientation focuses on the specific certification requirements, policies, and teaching expectations for your state. Led by state-based teams, this session ensures you understand the steps needed to meet licensure and program requirements in your location.

A: New Student Orientation is led by the Student Affairs and Support Services. 

 

Q: What happens if I don’t attend orientation?

A: You will miss out on valuable information and may struggle to meet both academic and certification requirements in the future, which could delay program completion and/or lead to administrative withdrawal.

Q: What if I can't make the live event? 
A: We recognize that your schedule may have conflicts, so we have provided multiple opportunities for you to attend and will be posting a recording of the event in Support Center.
