  • Make sure to make a selection for every question that is asked as this will determine the programs you may apply to.

Instructional Role:

  • Your program and instructional role should be aligned (i.e., if you are teaching 2nd grade, you should choose an Elementary program option). If you have been hired and are unsure about your instructional role, please connect with your employer and do not submit the form until you get clarity on what your role is so that it aligns with your program.

  • If you have not been hired yet, you may submit the instructional role information as "unknown."

Selecting Your Program:

  • You should choose the option that best describes the program you intend to pursue at Relay. If you are unsure of what program to select, please confer with your Employer or Prospective Student Advisor.

  • Please carefully consider your certification/licensure area or endorsement selection, as it will determine the course content. Your certification/licensure area or endorsement should align with 1) your instructional role, 2) your certification pathway (the content you select will determine the content course you will be enrolled in), and 3) your program criteria.

  • For the question, "At which school will you be working in 2025-26?" type the full name of the school in the box provided. If your school populates in the box, click to add the school to your application. If you are unsure, please leave the section blank.

  • If you are new to the teaching profession, your employment and educator career likely both start this upcoming summer (2025).

Common Questions About This Section

Why don’t I see a program option that says “Residency”?

There is no program option that says "Residency." Instead, look for an additional question where you can state if you are pursuing the Relay Teaching Residency track.

What if I don’t have the answers to questions about my role?

Please answer with information about your role to the best of your ability and select "Unknown" if you do not know the information being requested.

Awards and Scholarships Form

When your Awards and Scholarships form populates, you’ll be asked to input any external scholarships or awards you received and include the amount.

FAFSA and TEACH Grant

The FAFSA and TEACH Grant processes are external to the Relay application. While highly recommended, applicants do NOT need to submit the FAFSA prior to filling out the Awards & Scholarships form.  Please submit this form with your current awards and/or scholarships. Any awards via the FAFSA will be reported to Relay once you are enrolled.

For Awards or Scholarships, including Teach for America (TFA):

  • TFA corps members who have already received a Segal Award prior to entering Relay should respond "Yes".
  • TFA corps members who are going to earn one at the end of the upcoming academic year should respond "No".
  • Then you’ll be asked if  you’ve served in an AmeriCorps program before summer 2025. TFA corps members who have not previously served as AmeriCorps members should answer "No".

Veteran Status

  • Indicate yes here if you are an active duty, veteran, or dependent/spouse of an active duty service member or veteran.
  • We are working to gain re-authorization for Veteran’s Benefits for the 2026-2027 school year. If you are eligible for VA Benefits and once your program has been re-authorized through Veterans Affairs, Relay will invite you to submit a benefits request form to Relay. Veterans Affairs may be able to answer questions directly about your eligibility and/or if retroactive benefits are available. You may learn more about Veteran Benefits here.

Common Questions About This Section

What are my financial aid options?

You can learn about your financial aid options for attending relay here. [LINK NEEDED: “Your Financial Aid Options”]

Why am I being asked to enter my scholarships or awards?

Nearly all students at Relay receive institutional aid. This allows Relay to make your tuition more affordable for you. Please tell us about scholarships and awards that you have (or are currently) earning from other (non-Relay) organizations, so we can ensure that we’re able to provide you with the best options of Relay scholarships for which you’re eligible. Please note, any external scholarships or awards may lower your financial aid offer during review or upon release to Relay.

Which programs do you anticipate being able to certify Veterans benefits for?

While re-authorization is not guaranteed for any or all of these programs, Relay has historically been approved to certify Veteran's benefits for matriculated students enrolled in the following programs after the census date of each term:

  • Baton Rouge Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
  • San Antonio Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
  • New York Advanced Certification in Special Education (ACSPED)
