The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post-service benefit earned by individuals who complete an approved term of national service in AmeriCorps programs.  The award is named after Eli Segal, a pioneer of national service and the first CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

The amount of a full-time Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is equivalent to the maximum value of the Pell Grant for the year in which the term of national service is approved. The amount of the Pell Grant may fluctuate each year; therefore, the amount of a full-time Segal award may vary also vary each year. However, the dollar amount of that award will not change once an individual earns an award.

For the 2024-25 service term, a full-time member who successfully completes 1700 service hours will be eligible to earn $7,395.  For the 2023-24 service term, a full-time member who successfully completed 1700 service hours will be eligible to earn $6,895.

Upon successful completion of your service term with Relay, the education award will be released to you. You can use that award for up to seven years to pay for educational expenses.
