New York State Certificate Overview

Please note that all certificates are not printed at the time of issuance. Candidates should verify their certification requirements via the New York state online TEACH System.  

  • Transitional B Certificate 

Relay GSE is a Transitional B institution. Therefore, all students must obtain a Transitional B certificate while at enrolled Relay and before their graduation. Procuring a Transitional B is an essential next step toward applying for an Initial Certificate. 

  1. Completion of Dignity for All Students Workshop (DASA) 
  2. Completion of School Violence Prevention Workshop 
  3. Completion of Child Abuse Prevention/Mandated Reporter Workshop 
  4. Passing scores on all parts of the appropriate Content Specialty Tests (CST)
  5. Passing scores on the Educating All Students exam (EAS)
  6. Payment of the appropriate Transitional B ('Screenshots' TEACH account with name and proof of payment will only be accepted) 

All of the above materials must be uploaded to Relay via your student status page. 

  • Initial Certificate 

Following your Graduation from our program, Relay provides a recommendation to TEACH for your Initial Certification. A certificate of this type is issued as the entry-level certificate for classroom teachers. It is valid for five years. Requirements listed below: 

  1. Completion of NYS Registered Program (Graduation from Relay)
  2. Institutional Recommendation (provided by Relay following graduation from our program) 
  3. Passing scores on all parts of the appropriate Content Specialty Tests (CST)
  4. Passing scores on the Educating All Students exam (EAS)
  5. DASA completion 
  6. Fingerprint clearance
  • Professional Certificate

A certificate of this type is issued as the advanced-level certificate for classroom teachers. Continuously valid with completion of the required Continuing Teacher and Leader (CTLE) hours during every five year registration period. The five-year registration period begins when you registered as “Registered”.  Individuals that are issued their first Professional certification starting 7/1/2016 and thereafter, will be automatically registered for their initial five-year registration period. The registration period will begin the first day of the month when the certification was issued until the end of the month prior to their birth month in the 5th year.
