When to Register

Register as soon as possible — and no later than the end of your first spring term at Relay, unless your campus directs you otherwise.

Once you register, you have 18 months to submit your edTPA portfolio for scoring, so registering early gives you the most flexibility as you prepare.

How to Register

All Relay students register and submit through the Pearson ePortfolio system.

1. Go to www.edTPA.com. Under "Candidates" on the home page, select "Register Now."
2. Read the "Before you Register" and "Privacy Policy" information.
3. Select "Next" when you're ready.
4. Under "Register to Take or Retake the Full Assessment," select "Review the instructions and register" next to the Pearson ePortfolio System.
5. Select "Register Now."
6. Enter your information. 
   1. When prompted to select an assessment version, choose the National version — not the Washington version.
   2. List Relay Graduate School of Education as your reporting institution, and select your specific Relay campus (e.g., Relay - Delaware) as your educator preparation program.
   3. When prompted, select your Relay campus as a score report recipient.

Choosing Your Handbook

Your edTPA handbook is the subject- and grade-level-specific version of the assessment you're required to complete.

Select the handbook that aligns with your certification area — not your current teaching placement. If the two differ, connect with your academic advisor or the edTPA faculty lead at your campus for guidance. Many Relay students have successfully completed the edTPA even when their handbook area differed from their teaching placement.

You can access your handbook through the TC: Planning for edTPA or TC: Curating the edTPA modules in your coursework, or through the Pearson website once you've registered.

Elementary Education Students

If you're seeking elementary education certification, there are four different handbook options — and most states only accept one or two of them, typically the four-task handbooks. 

Before you register, review your state's requirements to confirm which handbook you need.

FAQs

I was certified in another state before coming to Relay. Do I still need to submit the edTPA?

You might. Reciprocity requirements vary by state. In most states, you may be exempt if:

• You have at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA
• 3 years of effective or highly effective teaching experience under a valid initial- or professional-level license.

I completed an edTPA portfolio in another state. Do I need to submit another one?

It depends. Email your campus certification officer or operations lead at [email protected] so they can check whether your previously submitted portfolio meets the handbook alignment and passing requirements in your current state. They'll also provide directions for sending an official score report to your state if it will be accepted.
