An instructional role is a role within a school teaching PK-12 students, including but not limited to lead teacher, teacher of record, or teacher-in-residence.

In order to enroll at Relay, you must be hired by one of our school partners in an instructional role that aligns with your Relay program. For example, if you are applying to enroll in the Relay Teaching Residency (click here for a description of the Residency), you must be hired into a role of a "teacher-in-residence."

You will have to initiate self-placement by independently searching and securing a job placement with one of the school district partners.  A list of school partners can be found on each state location page.

Below you'll find several resources designed to guide you to find the school and role that best fits your career and graduate program.

Interview Preparation

Before interviewing with Relay's school partners, students should practice responses to possible questions and a sample teaching scenario. You can practice with family, friends, or utilize the career services or alumni affairs office at your undergraduate college and/or university. Learn even more about interview preparation in this interview guide.

New Partner Process

If you have secured a program-aligned instructional role with a partner school, district, or network not currently listed on their location page, you should submit this form as soon as possible. The Location Director for the state will reach out to the reported representative at the school, district, or network to confirm whether or not the prospective student could do the program at this partner school, district, or network.  We recommend using the document below to guide conversations with new partners.

The Prospective Student Advising team will be in touch with the prospective student regarding the outcome of this conversation. We estimate this process could take 2-4 weeks, so we highly recommend engaging with new partners as soon as possible in order to meet teacher program admissions deadlines. If you have any questions, please email your Prospective Student Advisor at [email protected]

If you'd like to share more with your school about partnering with Relay, please share this information.
